The Greenwood Lake Elementary School had its annual Veterans Day Breakfast to honor local veterans on Friday, Nov. 8.

The event is sponsored by the third grade class, teachers and parents.

Greenwood Lake Superintendent Sarah Hadden, Greenwood Lake Principal Dianne Connolly and Greenwood Lake Mayor Jesse Dwyer presented the veterans with words of appreciation and gratitude.

The Girl Scouts and the Boy Scouts presented the colors and led the assembly with the Pledge of Allegiance. Following the Pledge, the elementary students and guests gathered together to sing the "Star Spangled Banner."

Three third graders - Ashten Thurber, Nicholas Nowak and Kylie Frey - read poems to the veterans. In additional, veterans were asked to share information about their service including branch of the military, years of service, places stationed and their heart-felt connections to Greenwood Lake.

The ceremony closed with elementary students singing, "I'm Feeling Red,White and Blue."

Immediately following, veterans and families were invited to eat breakfast with the third grade students.
