Greenwood Lake Commission seeks bids for spring stump removal project

By Carol Reif
WEST MILFORD — The battle to remove dangerous tree stumps from Greenwood Lake continues.
The waterway spans the New Jersey-New York border. It contains more than 1,000 old-growth stumps left from a lake expansion project in the 1800s.
A bi-state commission's ongoing removal project aims to remove the stumps for the safety of people participating in water sports.
Commission co-chairs Paul M. Zarrillo (NJ) and Floyd Deangelo (NY) recently announced that two, large floating stump fields, north and east of Fox Island, have been discovered. The commission plans to remove the fields this spring, along with another in the lake's west arm.
The commission will open the bid process to qualified firms to handle the removal project.
A conference for contractors will be held on Thursday, Jan. 25, at 4 p.m. at the commission's offices, 1616D Union Valley Road, West Milford.
The commission will received sealed bids until Friday, Feb. 16 at 3 p.m. EST. They must be sents to: PO Box 93, Hewitt, NJ, 07421 or 1616D Union Valley Road, West Milford, NJ, 07480.
Responses received after this time will not be accepted, the commission said.
Bidders have to submit 11 copies, and at least one digital copy. The bids will be opened at the commission's Feb. 28 meeting, set to be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Senior Center in Greenwood Lake, NY. Only the names of the firms submitting proposals will be read, the commission said.
The commissioners will announce the bid award on Friday, March 9 at 3 p.m. at the office in West Milford.
Questions concerning the scope of work, response submittal, or process should be directed, in writing, to commissioners Paul Zarrillo and Floyd Deangelo by emailing info@gwlc.org.
The commission's mission is to protect Greenwood Lake and its watershed, which supplies more than three million residents and thousands of businesses.
