— The Backpack Snack Attack program will hold a "Fall Fling" dinner/fund raiser on Monday, Nov. 6.
The sixth annual event, supported by local businesses, organizations and individuals, will be hosted and sponsored by Grappa Ristorante at 22 Railroad Ave. in the Village of Warwick.
300 childrenSince January 2009, elementary school children in this area have been taking advantage of Backpack Snack Attack, a charitable program designed to insure that needy children always have enough to eat.
The Warwick Reformed Church on Maple Avenue originated this program, which is available to public elementary schools in Warwick, Florida, Pine Island and Greenwood Lake.
Program volunteers stuff backpacks with food for almost 300 needy children to enable them to eat at home on weekends and during the summer when the free breakfast and lunch meals they receive at school are not available.
$45 payable in advanceThere will be one seating at 6 p.m. for the dinner featuring salad, entrée, soft drinks, dessert and coffee. A cash bar will be available.
And there will also be raffles for restaurant gift certificates, Seiko watches and other prizes.
The cost per person is $45 payable in advance and all proceeds benefit Backpack Snack Attack.
"Thanks to the tremendous support of Grappa Ristorante owners Tony and Nick," said volunteer Len Singer, "Backpack Snack Attack has conducted multiple fund raisers each year successfully raising money for the food that goes directly to needy children in our towns."
Essential informationReservations can be made through Grappa Ristorante, 987-7373 or Singer at 248-6526. Checks should be made out to Backpack Snack Attack.
