— The Front Porch Arts Program, the brainchild of Linda Mensch, artistic director of Moving Company Dance Center in Warwick, is now in its 22nd year.
The annual program began its life reaching out into the Warwick community and creating window displays and exhibitions each summer for local stores and cafes.
Each year the program holds a final exhibition at Consciousfork Restaurant, 14 Railroad Ave., to coincide with the Warwick Summer Arts Festival.
The event was held this year on Thursday evening, Aug. 2, and featured student artwork crafted with supervision offered by Mensch and local visiting artists. They included Jesse Barrett, Rachel Bernand, Ava Burgos, Claire Gilliam, Brittney Hiller, Danya Marie, Sharon Roll and Stephanie Roth.
A silent auction of several art pieces made by both students and guest artists, Glen Carter, Martin Dominquez Ball, Karen Decher and Stephanie Roth, was also held to benefit the Front Porch Arts Scholarship Program, which runs through the month of August.
Mensch directs Front Porch Arts for five weeks from July into August and focuses on letting students explore their creativity freely by engaging them in individual and collaborative art pieces, poetry and dance.
The connection to the local community is still at the heart of the program, with visits to local artist studios for hands-on projects, lunch in the beautiful surroundings of Railroad Green and once a week, a visit to Fannies for homemade ice cream.
