Florida Workshop on heat pumps as a cost-effective way to heat and cool a home set for June 5

| 30 May 2019 | 03:37

Sustainable Warwick and Energize NY will host a presentation on heat pumps at the Florida Public Library on Tuesday, June 5, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
"Heat Pumps: Cost Effective Heating and Cooling for Your Home," will be an excellent opportunity for homeowners to learn about recent innovations in heat pumps.
Local business owners Bob and Jamie Bogert will provide an overview of heat pumps and answer questions. Their company, Alpine Air, was selected to be the heat pump contractor for the HeatSmart campaign in part because it is one of the few companies in Orange County that works with both air-source heat pumps and ground-source heat pumps.
"It's important for homeowners to understand the new technology available for home heating and cooling in this part of the country," said Michael Helme of Sustainable Warwick in the press release announcing the workshop.
Heat pumps are efficient because rather than creating heat (or cold), they separate heat and cold. Thus, they can heat a home in the winter and also cool the same home in the summer. Because heat pumps run off electricity, they are good for the environment. And especially with the 2019 rebates from O&R and a discount for participating in the HeatSmart campaign, heat pumps can save a good deal of money.
"We often hear of people putting heat pumps in new homes, or for an addition or basement, because that was the best way to get air conditioning or heating in their home or just to save money." Helme said. "But it would be a shame if someone suddenly had to replace a fossil-fuel burning furnace and rushed to get a new one without first exploring heat pumps."
