FLORIDA — The Florida Public Library’s annual budget vote and trustee election will be held on Tuesday, April 3, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the library, located at 4 Cohen Circle in the Village of Florida.

The library is a school district public library, sharing the same geographical boundaries as the Florida School district.

Included on the ballot will be the proposition for the library’s operating budget and the election of three trustees to three-year terms commencing July 1.

The 2012-13 proposed tax levy for voter’s approval is $332,800, which represents an increase of $14,810 over the current year.

Copies of the budget are available in the library and a special information meeting on the budget will be held on Monday, March 5, at 7:30 p.m.

The three open seats are those of incumbents Sheryl Linton, Ian Murphy and former incumbent Donna Bell, who recently resigned.

Petitions for candidates interested in placing their names on the ballot are available at the library now and must be returned by 5 p.m. on March 2.

Qualified candidates must be 18 years of age and residents of the Florida School District. For more information on the volunteer position of the trustee, contact director Madelyn Folino or consult the Handbook for Library Trustees of New York State which can be found in the library’s reference collection.

Absentee ballots will also be available for the vote. Eligible voters must be registered either with the school or with the county Board of Elections for the general election. Voter registration forms are in the library.

“We are looking forward to our annual vote and hope for Florida’s usual excellent support for library programs and services,” Folino said in the press release announcing the date for the election. “This year’s budget is beyond bare bones - we’re down to the marrow.”
