Florida Public Library's 2018 vote and trustee election takes place April 5

    — Florida Public Library’s annual budget vote and trustee election will take place on Thursday, April 5, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the library.
    All registered voters in the Florida School District are eligible to vote. Absentee ballots are available until April 4.
    Copies of the budget are available at the circulation desk or online at www.floridapubliclibrary.org.
    Two propositions will be on the ballot:
    Approval of a tax levy of $459,140 for the annual operation of the library; and
    The election of three trustees.
    TaxesThe proposed tax levy is an increase of $15,200 over the current year.
    Estimated 2018-19 tax rates per $1,000 of assessed property value are:
    $5.62 for the Town of Warwick, an increase of .16; and
    $1.30 for the Town of Goshen, an increase of .04.
    Three trusteesThe open seats on the library board, with terms commencing July 1, are those of Alfred Beers, Lee Maas and Ronald Kamrowski.
    Candidates for the three seats are incumbent Kamrowski, Laura Fernandez and write-in candidate Stella Kosior. All three seats are for three-year terms commencing July 1.
    Ron Kamrowski is a lifelong resident of Florida. He is a graduate of John S. Burke and SUNY Buffalo and is retired from a long career with ShopRite.


    Laura Fernandez has lived in Florida for 40 years and is retired from Orange County Social Services where she honed her skills in problem-solving and customer service in a 25-year career.
    Stella Kosior is also a Florida native and a member of the S.S. Seward Alumni Association. She recently retired from Modern Produce where she was office manager for many years. She currently serves as FPL’s appointed Treasurer.
    Events on election dayIn addition to the vote, several other events will take place at FPL on Election Day.
    At 10:30 a.m., ScienceTellers will visit for a family program especially geared for preschoolers, but open to all ages. “Pirates: Lost at Sea” will explore the science behind clouds, combustion, air pressure, shifting states of matter and more. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
    From 4-6 p.m., FPL’s 3D printer will be working and on display for STEAM lovers of all ages to drop by, observe and have their questions answered by a library staff member.
    In the evening from 6-8 p.m., An Evening with Marc Mathelier will feature the guitarist in a solo performance of songs ranging from classical jazz to new age. Listeners are invited to stop by for music and refreshments in our café set up in the children’s room.
