FLORIDA — The Florida Public Library’s annual budget vote and trustee election will be held Wednesday, April 3, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the library at 4 Cohen Circle in the Village of Florida.

The library is a school district public library, sharing the same geographical boundaries as the Florida Union Free School District.

Included on the ballot will be the proposition for the library’s operating budget and the election of three trustees with terms commencing July 1.

Budget
The 2013-14 proposed tax levy for voters’ approval is $357,750 which would represent an increase of $24,950 over the current year.

Estimated tax rate increases are $.07 per $1,000 for residents living in the Town of Goshen and $.31 per $1,000 for those living in the Town of Warwick.

Copies of the budget are available in the library and a special information meeting on the budget will be held Monday, March 4, at 7:30 p.m.

Trustees
Two seats are three-year terms and one seat is for one year, the balance of an unexpired term.

The three open seats are those of incumbents Diane Arcieri, who currently serves as secretary; Beth Pskowski, who was newly appointed last August to the unexpired term; and Shirley Coughlin, who is retiring from the board after more than 20 years of service.

Petitions for candidates interested in placing their names on the ballot are available at the library now and must be returned by 5 p.m. on March 1. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and residents of the Florida School District.

For more information on the volunteer position of the trustee, contact director Madelyn Folino or consult the Handbook for Library Trustees of New York State, which can be found in the library’s reference collection.

Absentee ballot applications are available in the library, as are voter registration forms. Eligible voters must be registered either with the school or with the county Board of Elections for the general election.
