Flag Day

| 13 Jun 2013 | 10:25

Although not a national holiday, June 14 is recognized as Flag Day. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on this date in 1777 by the Second Continental Congress. The flags pictured here are among the 1,600 that the owners of the Lazear-Smith and Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Warwick planted on their front lawn along Oakland Ave. in Warwick to observe Memorial Day. Each flag represents a veteran buried in Warwick cemeteries going back to the Revolutionary War.
