Five Warwick students participate in Rotary Youth Leadership program

WARWICK Five Warwick Valley High School students who will be entering their junior year of high school developed valuable leadership skills this summer. Kyle Roeloffs, Clare Finnegan, Gianna Rotondo, Katie OLeary and Erin Shanahan attended the five-day Rotary Youth Leadership Award Conference held at Mount St. Mary College in Newburgh June 25-29. They were selected based on their academic records and demonstrated leadership potential in their home, school and community. The conference is designed to instill confidence and develop leadership skills in students as they begin to consider career paths and college choices. Topics include personal goal setting, time management, communication and listening, public speaking, priority setting, team building and leadership responsibilities. To help develop these skills, students become members of teams which plan and carry out a project in areas such as engineering, sports, drama, media and music. Guest speakers offer advice and inspiration to the future leaders. Warwick Rotarians help sponsor the Rotary Youth Leadership Award program and about three dozen local projects and organizations through donations and volunteering of time. The service organization of community leaders, business and professional men and women, meets at noon each Wednesday at the Landmark Inn. The local Rotarians also sponsor the Warwick Valley High School Interact Club, which has more than 100 members. Jeanine Fogler is the Interact advisor.
