First Touro graduates have Goshen and Warwick connections

MIDDLETOWN — The 117 medical students who recently received the first doctor of osteopathic medicine (DO) degrees awarded by Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in Middletown also had affiliations with Horizon Family Medical Group in Goshen.
In a statement, Horizon Family Medical Group officials said beginning in 2012, it was instrumental in the founding of the school and its opening in August 2014.
Warwick resident Dr. Alex Joanow - a HMG founding partner and an obstetrician/gynecologist - is director of clinical rotations at TouroCOM and an adjunct clinical assistant professor in the Department of Osteopathic and Manipulative Medicine and played a role in the students’ education.
Joanow oversees the medical education of TouroCOM third-year students who are in clinical clerkships at hospitals and sites in New York and Connecticut.
"We are extremely proud of our inaugural class of new physicians,” he said in a statement. “As a result of their recent successes in the National Residency Match, they will have an immediate national impact in the field of medicine."
