Exotic animals welcome

Last December, Dr. Sarah Marpet and her husband, Dr. Brian Civatte, opened a new veterinary hospital at 87 Kings Highway, between the Warwick Town Hall and the entrance to the Village of Warwick.
And on Friday, May 17, Village of Warwick Mayor Michael Newhard and members of the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce joined Marpet and Civatte, their daughter Everleigh, 1, and a new patient, "Buddy," an English Bulldog, to celebrate the official grand opening of the Country Willow Veterinary Hospital.
The veterinary couple, who met in vet school at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, are Warwick residents whose home is literally a stone's throw from the hospital.
Dr. Sarah, as she prefers to be called, grew up in Chester, New Jersey, riding horses and raising sheep with her two older brothers and her parents.
She especially enjoys treating exotic animals such as birds and bunnies as well as emergency medicine.
Marpet also has an additional certification in canine rehabilitation medicine from the University of Tennessee.
Her husband is originally from southern New Jersey, but grew up in North Carolina on a horse farm.
He specializes in soft tissue surgery as well as ultrasonography.
After working at other hospitals, the two veterinarians wanted to create a warm, progressive environment that is open to all types of animals and medical conditions.
They explained that it was highly important that they could hospitalize patients overnight and continue care in order to avoid the emergency clinic "shuffle."
This dream became a reality with their new veterinary hospital, close to their home and equipped to handle most emergency needs including stat ultrasonography, blood transfusions, and exotic animal emergencies.
"If you are looking for a local family friendly veterinary hospital that is happy to see pets of all shapes and sizes," said Marpet, "please consider Country Willow Veterinary Hospital.
Current hours of operation are Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
