Community members are invited to join the fight against local hunger at Warwick Valley Empty Bowls 2014 on Friday, March 28 (snow date March 29) from 5 to 8 p.m. at Warwick Valley High School. This family fun event will feature student musicians and groups, kids’ games and pottery activities, silent auction and a community meal of gourmet soups, fresh bread and dessert, served continuously. Handmade pottery bowls, made and donated by local potters, will be available for purchase.

With the assistance of local high school culinary students, Chef Erik Johansen of the Iron Forge Inn restaurant in Warwick will create several soups using local ingredients, including chicken noodle, veggie minestrone, butternut squash and french onion, accompanied by fresh bread. Dessert will include apple crisp, using local apples, frozen yogurt and cookies.

The event will also feature performances by several high school and middle school music groups, which will perform in the lobby and north caféteria during the entire event. Groups will include members of the Warwick Valley High School and Warwick Valley Middle School orchestras, Vocal Point, Cat’s Meow, Wire Choir, Carolyn Weller and others.

The silent auction will feature many donated items, with bidding from 5 to 7 p.m. and pickup from 7 to 8 p.m. An auction preview will be available on the Empty Bowls Web site before the event, with postings including sponsor's name and link, item description and photograph.

The community service participation of local high school students is an important aspect of the fundraiser. In addition to student chefs, student volunteers will assist with setup, serving, cleanup and help Lion’s Club volunteers with kids’ games and activities.
