Emergency authorities considering a new animal rescue team

| 25 Jul 2018 | 04:40

The Orange County Division of Emergency Management and the Sheriff’s Office are exploring starting a County Animal Rescue Team; 26 New York counties have them.
A CART is an organized group of people trained in the Incident Command System, the National Incident Management System and HAZMAT awareness who have agreed to volunteer to assist animals impacted by a disaster/emergency.
Some team members may have additional skills and specialized training in animal-handling, health, husbandry and disaster-response-related functions.
The county’s Dept. of Emergency Services, along with representatives from the New York State Dept. of Agriculture and Markets, will hold an introductory meeting to gauge interest at the Emergency Services Center, 22 Wells Farm Road, Goshen, on Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. Interested people should RSVP to amoore@orangecountygov.com.
