El Azteca Restaurant celebrates fifth anniversary

FLORIDA Local officials and representatives of both the Florida and Warwick Valley Chambers of Commerce joined co-owner Ruben Godenez and his staff on May 23 to celebrate the fifth anniversary of El Azteca II Mexican restaurant at 117 South Main St. in the Village of Florida. Co-owner Lino Morales was away on an errand in preparation for another celebration at the restaurant that evening.
Stephanie Sweeton, on behalf of U.S. Rep. Nan Hayworth, presented an official certificate of recognition for the important milestone.
When he first opened El Azteca II in 2007, Godenez explained that local patrons no longer had to travel to Middletown for great Mexican cuisine.
His other restaurant, the original El Azteca, is at 146 North St. in Middletown.
Godinez, a native of Mexico, has lived in the United States, mostly in this area, for 27 years. He and his wife, Fannie, have three children ages seven to 17.
The extensive El Azteca II menu ranges from traditional appetizers like Guacamole and Nachos along with soups, combination dishes and a variety of Platos including a shrimp dish called Enchiladas Jarochas.
Specials like Burritos and Enchiladas are served with rice and refried beans.
El Azteca II also has a full service bar offering Mexican as well as American and European beers and wines or popular cocktails including Margaritas and Pina Coladas.
The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner Monday through Thursday and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. It is open on Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
