Eagle Scout Kyle Sarbak builds six new tables for Veterans Memorial Park

WARWICK — This past December Kyle Sarbak, the son of Steve and Janine Sarbak of Warwick and a member of Boy Scout Troop 45, was awarded the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout.

To achieve Eagle Rank, the small percentage of all scouts who do are required to complete a minimum of 21 merit badges, have leadership roles in and outside of the troop and participate in community service.

And each candidate must complete a major community service project as the last requirement.

Sarbak choose designing, planning, fund raising and building six commercial grade eight-foot tables to be placed in Veterans Memorial Park in the Village of Warwick.

He completed the project this past fall and when weather permits the tables, now stored indoors, will be placed in the park above the baseball fields and behind the library.

The ambitious task, which involved working closely with Mayor Michael Newhard and the staff of Kuiken Brothers and Wadeson Home Center, required more than 255 service hours to plan and execute.

Sarbak raised more than $1,500 to purchase the materials.

Sarbak is a junior at Warwick Valley High School where he is currently taking all AP/college level courses.

He is a member of the National Honor Society, Finance Club, Project Speak Up and the varsity crew team.

This past summer Sarbak received the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) and attended a conference at Mount Saint Mary College as part of the RYLA program.

In addition to these activities he works part-time at Sports, Fitness and Fun in the Village of Florida.

His Eagle Scout rank will be recognized in an Eagle Court ceremony on Sunday, April 27.
