DVE-News/TV reporters Madisyn Colon and Alice Aguirre recently set out to Frazzleberries Country Store in Warwick, NY, to meet Julia Roome, a current contestant on season 24 of the reality show “The Voice.”

The reporters learned that she could sing before she started to speak and when asked if she was nervous on national television, she replied that not only was she nervous, but she was in near disbelief when Niall Horan chose her. Suddenly, it was real and she did her best to remain calm.

Roome mentioned that singing is her passion, and she is happiest when she sings because she loves it with all her heart. She takes singing lessons and realizes that patience has been one of the keys to her success.

Roome, an eighth grader, is homeschooled and is fortunate that “The Voice” schedules school time into her day. That’s not to say that juggling both isn’t a challenge, but thankfully being homeschooled allows her a bit more flexibility, she recalled.

Roome says the best part of “The Voice” is the relationships she has made. She added there really is no bad part of being on “The Voice,” except for the occasional negative comments that she does her best to ignore.

It was a longtime dream of hers to be on the show; the wheels began in motion when she was 12 and due to the show’s age limit of 13, made the age cutoff by just 10 days! She couldn’t elaborate much on the process of getting on “The Voice,” but she said she filled out an application, tried out, got call backs taking her through more rounds of competition, and then finally the audition.

When she chooses songs to sing, she told the young reporters that she listens and learns songs that inspire her so she can inspire others. Once she had been chosen for the show, “The Voice” provided all flights and everything she needed while she was in California. The wardrobe team works with her to fit her style and corresponding outfits. She said if she doesn’t like what they choose, they work with her to find something else.

Before she was chosen, she mentioned that she really liked Gwen Stefani, but didn’t know that Niall Horan was going to be on the show. When she learned that he was, she researched everything she could about him so she could make a good song choice, if they chose her.

Both Gwen Stefani and Niall Horan chose her! Her emotions were sky high!

She wasn’t sure who she would pick until she made the choice on television, she added. In her opinion, to be chosen by both helped her to feel that all the work she put into it really paid off. She chose Team Niall.

She spoke of the safety issue of being on a TV show and that “The Voice” makes sure she is safe comfortable.

If you’d like to meet and hear Julia Roome in person, she will be at Goodfellas Pizza in Matamoras in their Goodfella’s Bistro Party Room at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28. Admission is $10.
