Dr. Alex Joanow inducted into Touro College of Medicine’s Humanism Honor Society

MIDDLETOWN — Dr. Alex M. Joanow, director of Clinical Rotations and clinical assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, was inducted recently into the Gold Humanism Honor Society at the college.
“The Gold Humanism Society recognizes the best qualities in physicians, which we strive to instill in our medical students at Touro College," Touro Dean Dr. Kenneth J. Steier said in the press release announcing the awards. "These qualities include empathy, compassion, and a lifelong commitment to serving others. I am proud of our faculty and medical students at Touro College who exhibit these qualities on a daily basis.”
'Founding principles'Joanow was admitted to the Honor Society along with another Touro faculty member, Dr. Tamie Proscia-Lieto, clinical assistant professor of Internal Medicine and 21 members of the college’s Class of 2018 medical students.
“The principles and values of the GHHS resonate here at Touro, from the organizational level to the individual and will evolve naturally because its founding principles, and core humanistic values are so consistent with those of the osteopathic philosophy as well as the mission of Touro itself; being based on a compassionate and humanistic focus," Proscia-Lieto said. "Not only treating the diagnosis but treating the person as well.”
'Compassionate patient care'Joanow is also a founding partner of Horizon Family Medical Group and an obstetrician and gynecologist with the group.
