Downtown Warwick stores offer gift solution with gift certificates

WARWICK — Late shoppers and anyone not sure of what someone might like as a gift may find a solution to their problem with gift certificates.

Warwick Merchant Guild Committee leaders Mary Beth Schlichting, owner of Frazzleberries, Debbie Iurato, treasurer and co-owner of Peck’s Wines & Liquors, and Nicole Repose, co-owner of Etched in Time Engraving, suggest that everyone consider merchant gift certificates.

“For anyone who may have forgotten a gift for that hard-to-buy-for teacher, coach, graduating student or anyone else whose likes and dislikes, hobbies or style preferences in general are not well known, we have a solution,” said Debbie Iurato. “Gift certificates in five and ten-dollar denominations are available and redeemable at most Warwick shops. And the advantage, especially with the high price of gasoline, is that they do not require the recipient to travel a long distance or place a complicated order by telephone, on the Internet or from a catalog to redeem.”

Committee members argue that with gasoline at close to $4 per gallon, spending an afternoon or evening traveling to the mall to purchase a gift that someone may later wish to exchange, may not be the best option.

“With merchant gift certificates,” she said, “the money stays in the community, supports local merchants, helps to keep the downtown area viable and is guaranteed to purchase a gift that will be appreciated.”
