Deadline to file for 2019 Black Dirt Scholarships is April 22
PINE ISLAND — The Pine Island Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for its 2019 Black Dirt Scholarship Fund.
The scholarship is open to high school seniors and college students.
The Black Dirt Scholarship Fund awards three annual scholarships of $1,500 each to students who have demonstrated a commitment to community service.
The focus is on applicants who have chosen to pursue careers in one of three categories that celebrate the character of the Pine Island Community, past and present:
• Agricultural/Equestrian studies;
• Culinary Arts/Hospitality Industry; and
• Any other declared college major.
RequirementsApplicants must be a resident of the Town of Warwick and either a high school senior who will graduate in June 2019, or a student at any stage of a post-secondary education at an accredited educational facility.
Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to and involvement in community volunteer service or community work experience. They must be in good academic standing and show evidence of having achieved a minimum grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5 (or equivalent).
Previous applicants may re-apply for consideration.
• All materials must be submitted to the high school guidance department or postmarked no later than Monday, April 22.
FundingThe scholarships are sponsored by the Pine Island Chamber of Commerce and are funded with a portion of the proceeds from the annual Black Dirt Feast, scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 6.
