— The winner of the 2013 Danny Battista Trumpet Music Scholarship winner is Warwick Valley High School freshman Bob Cervone Richards.

This year's scholarship will provide $900 dollars worth of trumpet lessons.

Richards, the son of John and Michelle Cervone Richards, is a member of the Warwick Valley High School Concert Band. He is also a Boy Scout with Troop 38 and a member of the National Honor Society of Scouting.

In his scholarship application, Bob stated that his mission was to help out wherever help is needed.

The Trumpet Music Scholarship is awarded each year in memory of Danny Battista who was an active member of St. Stephen's parish and school as well as a student at Warwick Valley High School.

Battista, the son of Rocco and Judy Battista of Warwick, was one of the original members of The Warwick Youth Ensemble, which was formed at the Warwick School of Music. He also performed throughout Orange County with the Orange County Community College Band as well as in his parish and school.

Battista died in 2008 at the age of 20.

Among his many talents was his love for playing the trumpet.

The Trumpet Music Scholarship was established to honor and keep alive the memory of this special young man.

The scholarship award was presented at the annual blood drive on April 26, in memory of Danny Battista through Tista4life and the New York Blood Center. It was held at the Masonic Lodge in Warwick.

The Danny Battista Trumpet Music Scholarship Fund is administered through the St. Stephens Educational Trust Fund. All contributions are tax deductible.
