Danny Battista Memorial Trumpet Scholarship accepting submissions

WARWICK — Contest submissions are now open for this year's Memorial Trumpet Scholarship in Memory of Daniel Rocco "Tista" Battista, who died in 2008 at age 20.
He was the beloved son of Warwick residents Rocco and Judy Battista,
The contest is open to any Warwick resident between the ages of eight through 16 who is seriously interested in learning to play the trumpet.
The application essayThe young person should write a one- or two-page handwritten essay about himself or herself, including why you want to play the trumpet and what it means to you to win this award.
The essay should also include information about your active involvement in the community, helping others, church or house of worship and what do you do for creative outlets, as well as physical health and mental well being.
The scholarship award is $500 and will be paid in monthly increments, contingent on it being used for the intended purpose of learning the instrument.
"Danny," said Judy Battista, "was an active member of St. Stephen's parish and school as well as a student at Warwick Valley High School. He was one of the original members of The Warwick Youth Ensemble which was formed at the Warwick School of Music."
She added that her son also performed with the Orange County Community College Band and other venues.
The scholarship has been set up to honor and keep alive the memory of this special young man and his many accomplishments.. One recipient and one alternate will be chosen.
Essential informationThe scholarship contest letters are due by March 30.
