WARWICK — On Saturday, Sept. 8, "Cruisers for Critters," an all day Classic Car and Bike Show at the Warwick Drive-In, which was organized to benefit the Warwick Valley Humane Society, a not for profit corporation, enjoyed record crowds.
Although a rain shower that afternoon shortened the event, it nevertheless raised more than $3,000 and still counting as more checks and donations are coming in along with monthly sponsorships.
WTBQ owner Frank Truatt and Station Manager Taylor Sterling sponsored Cruisers for Critters along with Liz Cruz of Moroney's Harley in New Windsor, columnist Donna Kessler, Tom Lovelace of The Lovelace Experience and The Armonia Band.
"D.J. Shark" Branden Tyler Scire also provided the music as his gift to the Humane Society.
The proceeds will be used to help the Warwick Valley Humane Society construct a new building, desperately at this time because of its age as well as overcrowding, and continue its work to give a safe home with food and shelter for homeless pets.
The Humane Society was founded in 1954. It has operated the Warwick Animal Shelter since 1968 and is now celebrating its 50th anniversary.
The organization also provides Animal Control Services via contracts with the Towns of Warwick and Chester and contracts with the town of Tuxedo as an impound facility. More than 50 percent of its annual income is derived through fund raising.
