Crowds welcome the opening of the Warwick Farmer's Market

WARWICK — On Sunday, May 11, an enthusiastic number of visitors celebrated Mothers' Day by coming out to select fresh local farm products on the opening day for the 21st season of the Warwick Valley Farmers' Market.
The market officially opened that morning with a ribbon cutting by co-chair Cheryl Rogowski, joined by Mayor Michael Newhard, Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce President Sherry Bukovcan, Warwick Valley Farmers' Market Manager Penny Steyer and committee member and vendor Anne Ruszkiewicz.
The market, which for many years opened on the same day as the annual Duck Derby, now opens one week earlier. It was an opportunity for families to take the kids out and help them find something special for mom. And tickets for the Duck Derby, scheduled for Sunday, May 18, were also on sale.
Most of the vendors who signed up for the season were stationed as usual to offer a wide variety of farm-fresh produce, meats, prepared foods, jams, jellies, baked goods and pastries, flowers, plants, honey, maple syrup, wine and soaps.
And there was live music with the Gravikord Duo.
Situated in the South Street Parking lot the Market showcases many of the region's finest local farmers and producers who offer a variety of conventional, organic and certified naturally grown produce and fruits.
Mushrooms, chickens, eggs and sausages are also some of the delicacies found at the market every Sunday. And cooking demonstrations by many of Warwick's finest restaurant chefs feature local produce and provide visitors with an opportunity to sample their special dishes.
The Warwick Valley Farmers Market is open Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May through October.
