County wants your photos of storm damage

GOSHEN — The Orange County Division of Emergency Management will be working with the National Weather Service and other agencies Wednesday to assess damage from the furious storm that ripped through the area on Tuesday afternoon.
The department is asking county residents to submit photos of storm damage to give them a better handle on the storm's impact. Be sure to include the location for each photograph. Its Facebook page is Orange County Emergency Management-NY.
"You have NO idea how much it will help!" says an OCEM Facebook posting.
A fatal stormOfficials say Tuesday's storm caused two fatalities and damage countywide.
Around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the county reported that had activated its emergency operations center in Goshen. The point of contact is Shannon Fisher, at 845-615-0552.
More than 60,000 customers in Orange County were without power in the storm's aftermath. Scattered outages remained on Wednesday morning.
Downed trees temporarily closed a number of roads throughout the county, including Route 17A in Goshen.
In Newburgh, a child and an adult were killed in separate accidents, in which trees fell on cars.
St. Luke's Hospital operated on generators. In the town of Cornwall, a tree hit the roof of the middle school, and a 250-person senior home suffered structural damage.
There were 132 people requiring emergency power for medical needs, according to the county.
Safety tipsThe Division of Emergency Management shared the following tips from the utility companies:
Do not touch any downed wires with your hand or any objects such as a broom or stick. Avoid touching anything such as a car, tree, object or equipment and avoid driving over any downed wires.
Maintain a distance of at least 50 feet from any downed wires and anything they are in contact with. Supervise all children in the area of downed trees or wires and keep pets on a leash.
If you observe arching or sparking wires, call the local utility company or 911 immediately.
When approaching non-working traffic signals all motorists are required to stop at all intersections.
Tree roots continue to be highly compromised and continue to fall. Remain clear of any tree’s that are leaning or appear to be unstable.
Do not use or store generators inside a home. Maintain all generators a safe distance from the structure.
