County holding household hazardous waste collection Saturday

Orange County is hosting a household hazardous waste and pharmaceutical collection event on Saturday, June 7, at Port Jervis High School lower parking lot.

The event is sponsored by the county and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation; Operation Safe Scripts is sponsored by the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's department will be collecting prescription and over-the-counter medications for disposal. No medical sharps will be accepted. Acceptable items are adhesives, aerosol cans, automotive products, flammable liquids, corrosives, cleaners, creosote, driveway sealer, pool chemicals, fluorescent light bulbs, inks, mercury, oil-based paints, pesticides and herbicides, roofing tar, rubber cement, solvents, thinners, varnishes and stains, wood preservatives and used cooking oil.

No refrigerators, air conditioners, freezers, liquid propane tanks, water-based paint or electronics will be accepted.

This is a free event and open to all Orange County residents with proof of residency. There is no registration required.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
