Continental Hotel celebrates grand opening of lakeside terrace

GREENWOOD LAKE — On Thursday evening, June 27, Town of Warwick Supervisor Michael Sweeton and members of the Warwick Valley and Greenwood Lake Chambers of Commerce joined owner Leo Stoeberl, his family and staff, for a ribbon cutting ceremony at the New Continental Hotel and Restaurant.
The celebration and ribbon-cutting was held to officially open the recent addition of the New Continental’s picturesque lakeside terrace dining area.
Dating back to the 1920s, the New Continental Hotel, 15 Leo Court, just off Route 210, is the oldest family-owned hotel and restaurant business in Greenwood Lake.
In addition to enjoying home-style German/American cuisine, guests, who arrive by land or sea, can view the natural beauty of Greenwood Lake and the surrounding mountains from the new lakeside terrace or the main dining room.
Patrons can also relax in the Delft cocktail lounge featuring 240 different tiles from Holland, each well more than 100 years old.
The family-run country inn is filled with old-world charm and atmosphere.
Today it is owned and operated by Leo Stoeberl with assistance from his wife, Joyce, his sister Diane, daughter Amy and many supportive family members and staff.
In addition to its restaurant and cocktail lounge, the hotel provides 20 comfortable guestrooms with air conditioning, private bath, cable TV and Wi-Fi at reasonable rates.
Guests may be interested in learning that in its long history the Continental Hotel has been a favorite lodging for many prominent personalities including New York Yankees legend Babe Ruth.
Dining hours are 12 - 9 p.m. Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 12 - 8 p.m. on Sunday.
