College notes

Dean’s list
Tyler Young, a 2012 graduate of Warwick Valley High School, has been named to the dean’s list with high honors at Nichols College in Dudley, Mass., with a GPA of 3.8. Tyler is majoring in hospitality management.
Jeanette Arias, daughter of Maria and the late Oscar Arias and a member of the Warwick Valley High School Class of 2010, has been named to the dean’s list with a GPA of 4.0 at Rutgers University’s School of Social Work. Jeanette is completing her junior year and has also been accepted into the graduate program for Rutgers.
Programs, awards, honors
Liza M. Gergenti, daughter of Vincent and Margaret Gergenti of Warwick, is one of 102 Hamilton College students participating in the college’s 20th annual Alternative Spring Break. Participants will perform volunteer work in 10 locations throughout the south during Hamilton’s spring break, from March 16-31.
Gergenti, a junior majoring in neuroscience, is a graduate of Warwick Valley High School.
Alternative Spring Break is intended to increase students’ awareness and concern of social issues while generating a life-long interest in community service. This year Hamilton ASB is sending students to Toms River, N.J. for Hurricane Sandy relief, Cumberland Trails, Tenn., Habitat for Humanity sites in West Virginia and North and South Carolina and an after school program in North Carolina.
Participants in the ASB trips hold a number of fund raisers throughout the academic year to earn money for their expenses, which include van rentals, accommodations, meals and in some cases, site fees.
Alexa Joanow of Warwick was recently inducted into the Saint Francis University Academic Honor Society. This award is bestowed based on exemplary academic achievement throughout the four years of college. Alexa was also recently honored by being named team co-captain of The Saint Francis University women’s lacrosse team that participates in The Northeast Conference. As a student-athlete, Alexa has been a four-year starter as a defender for the lacrosse team.
Alexa is completing her master’s degree program in physician assistant health science. She is a 2009 Warwick Valley High School graduate.
