WARWICK — Four Warwick Valley High School student-athletes signed letters of intent Thursday to play collegiate sports at Bucknell University, the University of Maryland Baltimore County, the University of Hartford and the College of St. Rose.

Warwick Valley Athletic Director provided the details:

Emma Bodeker

Overview: Emma has verbally committed to attend College of St. Rose as a student–athlete and be part of its National Champion women’s soccer team.

Big picture: Emma is one of many scholarship soccer players to come through the Warwick Valley program but will be the first to sign with national power college of St. Rose. Emma is a three-year letter winner for varsity soccer; she also is an outstanding lacrosse player.

• Scored 15 goals and 7 assists in her senior year as forward and striker

• Soccer captain in her senior year

• Exceptional lacrosse athlete offered at St. Thomas Aquinas (Soccer/Lax)

• NYSPHSAA Scholar–Athlete three consecutive years.

• 2012 candidate for All Section Soccer

Scholarship details: The athletic scholarship include more than 80 percent of the tuition, room and board at the College of St. Rose, currently estimated at $38,997. Emma will join the Golden Knights who compete in the NCAA Division II Northeast 10 along with Adelphi, UMASS Lowell, New Haven and 13 other universities. The Albany-based college is the top women’s soccer teams in the country winning the national title in 2011 and making it to the NCAA “Final Four” 4 of the last five years. Emma will graduate this spring with a GPA of 87.55 and plans to major in exercise science and physical therapy. She chose College of St. Rose over Scranton, Southern Connecticut, University of Rhode Island and Marist.

Emma is the daughter of Christine and Carl Bodeker of Warwick. Her sister Abbey is a standout student-athlete at WVHS (sophomore) and her brothers Eric and Alex are sixth graders in the Warwick Middle School who play soccer and lacrosse.



Hunter Dolshun

Overview: Hunter Dolshun has verbally committed to attend University of Maryland Baltimore County as a student–athlete and be part of its baseball team.

Big Picture: Hunter will continue his education at an excellent academic school that competes at the NCAA Division I level for baseball. His athletic accomplishments include:

• Section 9 Division II Champion 2012 (Baseball)

• Hit .325 (BA) with 15 RBI’s and 4 Home Runs in 20 games last year.

• Led the team in Slugging Percentage .530 and 10 walks.

• Regarded by many as the top defensive catcher in the southern part of the state with a .988 fielding percentage.

• NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete

Scholarship details: The scholarship includes partial athletic scholarship in the amount of $11,000 toward tuition room and board at the university where cost is currently estimated at $29,891. Hunter will compete as a catcher and corner infielder and outfielder for Coach Bob Mumma and is only one of four players being brought in to be a part of the baseball program. The Retrievers of the University of Maryland BC competes in the America East Conference with Albany, Maine, Hartford, Binghamton and College World Series participant Stony Brook. Hunter has a GPA of 88.8 overall and plans to study sports management and physical education. Hunter was recruited by Lehigh, Lafayette and Drew University but chose UMBC to compete in America East.

He is the son of Ed and Carol Dolshun of Warwick. His brother Grant is a sixth-grader in the Middle School.



Kathleen FitzGerald

Overview: Katie has verbally committed to attend Bucknell University as a student–athlete and be part of its Women’s Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track Program. The regular signing period for track athletes will begin March 21. The verbal commitment between Katie and Bucknell University is a “good faith agreement” on the terms and conditions of her attendance. The National Letter of Intent will bind that agreement.

Big Picture: Katie becomes one of many Warwick student–athletes in recent years to receive an athletic scholarship for cross country, indoor and outdoor track and use athletics as a vehicle for acceptance to an outstanding school (Aislinn Ryan – Colorado, Tori Pennings – Stanford, Lillian Greibesland – North Carolina State, Jacqueline Kasal – DePaul, Claire Pettit - UMASS). Katie is a captain this year and her accomplishments in athletics include:

• Section 9 Team Champion 2012 (cross country)

• Two time New York State Qualifier – NYSPHSAA Championships

• Two time “All American” for the distance medley relay (800 M at 2:17) and the 4 X 800 M (2:13 anchor leg).

• Fourth place (team) at the NYSPHSAA Championships 2012.

• NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete

Scholarship details: The scholarship include partial athletic scholarship in excess of 50 percent of tuition, room and board at Bucknell University where cost is currently over $55,000 per year. Katie will compete as a cross country, indoor and outdoor track athlete specializing in middle distance. Bucknell is located in Lewisburg, Pa., and competes in the NCAA Division I Patriot League along with Lafayette, Lehigh, Colgate, Army, Navy and Holy Cross. Katie is ranked in the top 20 percent of her class with an average of 92.53. She was recruited by Head Coach Kevin Donner and chose Bucknell over many other school that had expressed interest in her including Binghamton and Boston College. She plans to study business or psychology.

She is the daughter of Thomas and Mary FitzGerald of Warwick.



Meghan Ryan

Overview: Meghan has verbally committed to attend University of Hartford as a student–athlete and be part of its women’s golf team.

Big picture: Meghan is the first female student–athlete to play Division I Golf on athletic scholarship. She will be a six-year varsity letter winner at Warwick for golf and was the Section 9 Individual Champion. The team won the Division Title and finished undefeated last year (junior year). She returns as team captain her senior year.

• Section 9 Champion 2012 (Individual)

• Four time New York State qualifier – NYSPHSAA Golf Championships

• Place in the top 25 two consecutive years at the NYSPHSSAA Championships

• Outstanding soccer player for the Wildcats.

• NYSPHSAA Scholar–Athlete four consecutive years.

• Best round 9 holes is even par (77 for 18 holes).

Scholarship details: The athletic scholarship includes $29,156 per year toward tuition, room and board at University of Hartford where the cost is estimated at $43,000 per year. Meghan will compete in golf for both the fall and spring seasons. Hartford University (Hawks) is located in West Hartford, Conn., and competes in the America East along with UMBC, Vermont, Albany, Maine, Binghamton and others. Meghan chose University of Hartford over Quinnipiac, Methodist and Cortland State who all expressed great interest in her; she plans to study business in the fall.

She is the daughter of Thomas and Peggy Ryan of Warwick. Her brother Patrick is in eight grade, skies for the varsity ski team and plays lacrosse.
