WARWICK — The Warwick High School Art Department's fifth annual “Rock n Roll Scholarship Chair Auction and Art Show,” held last Friday, raised $4,590 for scholarships for graduating art seniors.

During the first hour, the high school lobby was alive with people gazing at the work done by students this school year in a variety of mediums, from digital photography, sculpture, pen and ink to colored pencil and acrylic and oil paintings.

The auction
The highlight of the evening was the chair auction. Throughout the school year junior and senior art students and art staffers painted chairs in the style of some of their favorite artists or art styles.

This year, 30 chairs were available for the auction. The themes included "Alice in Wonderland," military working dogs, Steampunk and sports."

Through some lively bidding, chairs sold from $80 to $400. Two chairs also were purchased online, one by someone in Michigan and another by someone living in England.

All of the $4,590 raised by the auction will be used for scholarships for graduating art seniors.
