Cat’s Meow High School singers on TV this Sunday, May 6

WARWICK — The Cat’s Meow, a newly founded all girls a cappella singing group from Warwick Valley High School, has been working hard to get noticed and now they will be on television.

The group recently auditioned for the MSG Varsity Talent Show and has been selected to compete in the ensemble category for this American Idol-style television presentation.

MSG Varsity’s Talent Show is a series created to spotlight talented high school students in the tri-state area. Top acts are featured each week on iO TV Channel 14.

Anyone with Cablevision can watch their performance at 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, and just like American Idol, the act with the most votes each week advances to the next round.

If you are unable to watch the show or if you do not have Cablevision, you can still vote for The Cat’s Meow of Warwick Valley at MSGVarsityTalentShow.com.

“Everyone, please vote for us,” said Allison Dethmers, co-founder of the group.

Warwick Valley School Music Teacher Noreen Hanson recently accompanied the girls to Long Island for their day at the television studio stage to watch the advance filming of The Cat’s Meow performance segments for the show.

“Being at the taping was a very surreal experience,” she said. “The girls were thrown into a whirlwind of rehearsals, photo opportunities and performances. They all handled the press and performance schedules like real pros. And even after the endless hours of this activity, the girls delivered three amazing performances. I couldn’t be more proud of them.”

The Cat’s Meow also recently competed in a singing competition at Festival Disney in Orlando, Fla., where they receive the Excellent Award for their performances.

Although the girls ran several fund raisers, the group is still about $2,000 short of the expenses for that trip.
