Capelli Sport Center hosting benefit for fire victims

FLORIDA On Oct. 8, a local family from Minisink, and a member of the Capelli Sport Center family, woke up to fire in their home. Fortunately, dad Dave and mom Stephanie, along with their two sons, Tyler and Dylan, were able to escape without injury. Unfortunately, the family lost everything that day except for the clothes on their backs.
Now, the Capelli Sport Center wants to bring people together and show the family how the power of community can help them rebuild their lives.
On Sunday, Oct. 23, from 4 to 7 p.m., everyone in the community is invited to the Capelli Sport Center to help the Knapp family. There will be a 50/50 raffle and a tricky tray, inflatables and Macaroni the Clown to keep the kids entertained, sports to play including dodgeball, soccer, baseball, softball, basketball, flag football, as well as food and beverages.
The suggested donation per family at the door is $25, but all donations will be gratefully accepted. Cash and checks made out to Knapp Family are accepted.
"We are truly a community-minded company," said Jim Lagarde, of Capelli Sport Center. "We know the Knapp family, but even if we didn't, we would do this. It's the least we can do for this family. They are an amazing family."
Everything raised at this event will be donated to the family, Lagarde added.
The committee organizing the event is meeting on Friday at 7 p.m. Anyone interested in donating a prize to the tricky tray may bring it to the center at that time or on Sunday during the event.
Capelli Sport Center is located at 1741 Route 17A in Florida (formerly Primo Sports). For more information, call 845-651-0440.
