Bon Secours wound specialist to offer presentation at international scientific meeting

SUFFERN — Dr. Byoung Yang, System Medical Director for Bon Secours Charity Health System Wound and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy program, has been invited to offer poster presentations at the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine Society’s annual scientific meeting in St. Louis, Mo., on June 18-21.

Yang specializes in wound care management at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Suffern, Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis and St. Anthony Community Hospital in Warwick, all members of the Bon Secours Charity Health System.

The Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society is an international, non-profit organization serving more than 2,400 members from more than 50 countries. The group is the primary source of scientific information for diving and hyperbaric medicine physiology worldwide.

In recent years, there have been revolutionary advancements in the field of wound care. Hyperbaric medicine, also known as Hyperbaric oxygen therapy, is the medical use of oxygen at a level higher than atmospheric pressure. Safe, noninvasive and completely painless, such therapy is one of the most powerful treatment methods available today for healing chronic wounds.

Yang is board-certified in Hyperbaric medicine, which includes comprehensive wound management.

His poster presentations will include a new diabetes related foot disease classification called the “Diabetes Associated Limb Disease,“ system, which includes the acute phase of foot infection or post-operative wounds.

He will also demonstrate that with the assist of Hyperbaric oxygen therapy post-operative wounds can be healed with up to 80 percent of success after diabetic foot surgery.
