Better safe than sorry

Orchard Street in the Village of Warwick was closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic for a period of time on Thursday afternoon, Jan. 16, while Warwick Police and the New York State Police Bomb Squad investigated a suspicious looking device that was found by excavators digging a trench on that roadway. The Warwick Fire Department was also called out to standby at their firehouses. State police determined that the device (seen in photo with a wire protruding from the side) was not a hazard and the road was reopened soon after. One of the workers who reported the suspicious device said it was better safe then sorry when speaking with police at the scene. Additional photos can be found online at warwickadvertiser.com.
