— Beautiful People will host its fifth annual fund raiser on Friday evening, Oct. 25, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Falkirk Estate and Country Club in Central Valley.

The organization will honor Pine Island employer Tom Herceg, president of SureHands Lift & Care Systems, whose career long commitment has been to improve the quality of life for those with physical disabilities.

Beautiful People is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization building bridges between children with disabilities, their families and the broader community by providing adaptive sports programs. Nearly 200, ages 5 and up, joined by teen and adult “buddy” volunteers, now participate in seasons of baseball, soccer and basketball. Every child deserves a chance to socialize, exercise and enjoy the benefits of team sports. That vision expands to include the goal to build out fully accessible, safe surface ball fields.

Honoree Tom Herceg
In the mid-80’s Herceg became the exclusive U.S. distributor of a lift and care system by Belgian manufacturer Handi-Move, having had the insight to see the independence offered to the disabled and their families in both private and professional settings. With the national network he has grown, more than 25,000 homes and workplaces work better with an emphasis on the Veterans Administration, Homes for our Troops, Horses for Heroes, Extreme Makeover, Habitat for Humanity, as well as rooms and lifts adapted at major universities, hotels and recreational facilities.

On the local front, he has partnered with organizations such as Independent Living, NY Spinal Cord Injury Association, SUNY Orange Center for Assistive & Rehab Technology and Winslow Therapeutic Riding Center.

A father of three, he lives in Chester with his wife Tina.

He is also the proud team sponsor for three years of the Beautiful People Philadelphia Phillies.
