TOWN OF WALLKILL — As children from all over Orange County pick up their gloves and head to their local ball parks for another spring season of baseball, so too are some beautiful children of Orange County; those who are contending with physical and development disabilities.

They have found a league which welcomes each and every one of them.

Sunday, May 13, was opening day for Beautiful People adaptive baseball. There was high expectation, energy and pure joy in the air as 120 children on eight teams took the field for the anthem and opening day ceremonies led by Macaroni the Clown and Rascal, the Renegade mascot.

Thanks to the Town of Wallkill Little League, several fields were used for simultaneous games and practice. As the games got underway, volunteer buddies helped with hitting and guiding children around bases while veteran Beautiful People players hit balls out of the park nearby.

Teen volunteers are another aspect of the organization; young people are learning the rewards of service and recognizing that those with special needs share similar hopes and dreams to their own.
