Baker sophomores trained to become life savers Tuxedo Volunteer Ambulance Corps EMTS provide the training

TUXEDO — This past month George F. Baker High School health teacher Thomas Schweitzer worked with Tuxedo Volunteer Ambulance Corps EMTs Bob Randhare and Leslie DeVore to provide first aid and CPR training to all of our 10th grade students as part of their advanced life skills health class.

This training also included instruction in the use of external AEDs such as the ones that can be found in every school building and in many other public places.

In addition, 42 students underwent additional training at school to earn American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) CPR certification.

“We are very grateful to Mr. Schweitzer, EMTs Randhare and DeVore and the Tuxedo Volunteer Ambulance Corps who provided the training materials for this public safety initiative,” High School Principal Denis M. Petrilak said in his press release announcing the program’s completion. “There is no doubt that at some point in the future one of these students will utilize some aspect of their training to help someone in a medical emergency and perhaps save a life.”
