Backpack Snack Attack fund raiser features Marilyn Monroe wine collection

WARWICK — An interesting and unique raffle, sponsored by Bill and Debbie Iurato, owners of Peck's Wines and Spirits on Bank Street in the Village of Warwick, raised $870 for Backpack Snack Attack.
The prize, which was won by Warwick resident Sue Batz in a drawing held on Saturday, Oct. 12, was a three-bottle Velvet Wine Collection, vintage 2004, featuring a photograph of Marilyn Monroe posing on a red velvet drape.
Widely acclaimed by critics, Marilyn Wines holds an exclusive agreement with the estate of Marilyn Monroe for the use of the name and the images and are licensed by Authentic Brands Group. The prize, worth an estimated $1,700, was on display at Peck's, where tickets were sold for $10 each.
Backpack Snack Attack is a non-profit organization that provides nutritional snacks to more than 300 school children each week of the school year. The program is run entirely by a group of volunteers and supported by donations and fund raising.
"We are very thankful for this fund raiser sponsored by Bill and Debbie," said Shirley Puett, director of Backpack Snack Attack. "Their commitment to working with us in helping to eliminate hunger in our community is greatly appreciated."
One hundred percent of all donations to the Backpack Snack Attack program are used to purchase food and backpacks. Annual expenses have now exceeded $80,000.
