‘Back-to-School Basics’ outreach underway in Greenwood Lake

GREENWOOD LAKE — Vincent Corrado, a resident of Greenwood Lake and a sophomore at Castleton State College in Vermont, will be collecting back-to-school supplies now through Friday, Aug. 31, as part of his annual “Back-to-School Basics” outreach project.
Corrado, 19, founded “Back-to-School Basics” in 2008 for his Confirmation project to benefit underprivileged children.
Donated supplies can be dropped off at the Greenwood Lake Public Library during regular operating hours (Monday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.).
Do not leave any items outside the library, as the Collection Box is located inside the library.
All donated items will be delivered to the Greenwood Lake Food Pantry for the beginning of the new school year.
Suggested items for donation are: loose leaf paper, pencils, erasers, pens, crayons, colored pencils, rulers, one-, two-, three-, and five-subject notebooks, book bags, tape, book covers, marble composition notebooks, dictionaries, pocket folders, scissors, hand-operated pencil sharpeners, staplers, staples, report covers, binders, binder subject separators, etc.
After Corrado collected an abundance of supplies in 2008, he decided to run the campaign annually, as school supplies are essential to a child’s educational success. For the past four years, the generosity of the local community has enabled children in need to attend school with the proper supplies, thus ensuring that these children would have the opportunity to succeed.
