    — Assemblyman Colin Schmitt and Washingtonville Mayor Joseph Bucco are launching a youth anti-vaping initiative.
According to the press release announcing the effort, adolescent vaping and use of e-cigarette and other related products has skyrocketed. Many are unaware of the increased use by children in our community and across the state and the harm this use causes, including many dire health risks.
Schmitt and Bucco are planning a youth anti-vaping legislative forum in Washingtonville that the public will be invited to attend and participate in.
They will receive testimony from the public on the matter and work to focus on solutions to this epidemic.
The event will also mark the formal kick-off of Schmitt’s youth anti-vaping advisory council, which will also be chaired by Bucco.
“I have had significant outreach from concerned parents and teachers regarding the negative impacts of vaping and e-cigarette use by teens and students," Schmitt said in the press release. "The issue seems to be rampant and in need of urgent attention. So many negative health impacts are associated with youth addiction to vaping."
Bucco added: “As a teacher and community leader I have seen first hand the devastating impact vaping is having on our children. The use is increased in multiples on nearly a daily basis. Most young people believe there are no negative effects on their health from vaping and many parents are not even aware their child might be vaping. I hope all in the community will join us to tackle this serious issue.”
Those interested in getting involved in the upcoming legislative forum and advisory council are asked to contact the Assemblyman’s office at 845-469-6929 or email kunzweilerj@nyassembly.gov.
