Art-n-Soul Junior entrepreneurs raise $625 for Backpack Snack Attack

WARWICK — Art-n-Soul Jr. Entrepreneur students from Park Avenue and Sanfordville elementary schools recently raised $625 for Backpack Snack Attack by selling their own art and crafts at the Warwick Farmers Market.
They also enjoyed a well-deserved ice cream party.
Since January 2009, elementary school children in this area have been taking advantage of Backpack Snack Attack, a charitable program designed to insure that needy children always have enough to eat.
Art-n-Soul programs are offered at St. Stephen's, Park Avenue and Sanfordville elementary schools.
Director Kim Olsen Scotto came up with the concept to teach kids entrepreneurial skills while doing what they love most, art.
"From start to finish," she said, "children work together as a team. From designing business cards and building up their art inventory, to creating and selling their completed crafts at a local fair where the proceeds from their sales are donated to a chosen charity."
In this program children acquire confidence by building skills through sales, learning life skills through money exchange and most important compassion by giving back to their community.
Art-n-Soul's Jr. Entrepreneurs previously raised money for other charitable causes, including the Warwick Valley Humane Society, Mary's Meals and Beautiful People.
The Art-n-Soul program is offered in both the fall and spring. Grade 2-4 can now be a part of these creative art classes.
Art-n-Soul will be offering a summer enrichment program at the Warwick Community Center.
Registration is now open for July and August.
