WARWICK — Art-n-Soul Jr. Entrepreneur students from St. Stephen - St. Edward Elementary School recently raised $225 at the Pine Island Craft Fair by selling their art and crafts to the public.
Proceeds from their sales were donated to the Warwick Valley Humane Society.
Art-n-Soul programs are now being offered at St. Stephen's, Park Avenue and Sanfordville Elementary Schools in Warwick.
Director Kim Olsen Scotto came up with the concept to teach kids entrepreneurial skills while doing what they love most, art.
"From start to finish," she said, "children work together as a team. From designing business cards and building up their art inventory, to creating and selling their completed crafts at a local fair where the proceeds from their sales are donated to a chosen charity."
In this program children acquire confidence by building skills through sales, learning life skills through money exchange and most important compassion by giving back to their community.
Art-n-Soul's Jr. Entrepreneurs previously raised money for other charitable causes including Mary's Meals and Beautiful People.
This summer Art-n-Soul will be running three camps at the Warwick Community Center. Registration is now open.
"I believe my class is doing well because the parents are seeing the effects that it has on their children," said Scotto. "They learn many life skills but most importantly, compassion. What better way to give, than by using self expression for a greater cause."
