Architects renovating another Rudolph building coming to Goshen

GOSHEN Two principal architects now working on a gut rehabilitation and expansion of a Paul Rudolph building in Dartmouth, Mass., will be in Orange County Tuesday to share their knowledge and cost estimates relevant to the renovation of the Orange County Government Center.
The briefing, hosted by the Democratic Alliance, will take place at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24, at 55 Main St., Suite 6, in Goshen. It is open to the public.
Michael Sussman, convener for the Democratic Alliance, said Robert J. Miklos, a distinguished Boston-based architect, wrote county Executive Ed Diana earlier (see sidebar for full text of letter). Miklos explained that the gut rehabilitation of and addition to a very similar Rudolph structure, built in the same time period, was well underway and would cost about $31.5 million. Miklos volunteered to give Diana a tour of his firm's work and sent photographs the show the remarkable similarities between the University of Massachusetts library building and the Government Center in Goshen.
"In that Mr. Miklos and his college, Sam Batchelor, AIA LEED of Design LAB Architects of Boston, have such current experience actually renovating a strikingly similar building, of the same size and materials and are in fact expanding that building as they rehabilitate it, the Democratic Alliance believes these gentlemen have much to offer our county as we move to a decision on whether to renovate the building....We can only grow by learning and keeping our minds open."
