— In recognition of efforts to create a unique shopping experience at Apple Valley Pharmacy, AnnMarie Cloutier, PharmD was honored recently as a guest speaker at the 115th Annual Convention and Trade Exposition of the National Community Pharmacy Association (NCPA). Cloutier is the owner and practices at Apple Valley Pharmacy, Warwick’s only pharmacy that specializes in custom compounding of medications.

Cloutier attended the NCPA Convention and Expo as a guest speaker, sharing her retail buying and merchandising expertise with an audience of over 400 members and pharmacy students. Deemed as a ‘Front End All Star,’ Cloutier discussed the impact of successful retail niches. She described Apple Valley’s successful marketing outreach to promote locally made and specialty products and offered tips on timing and stock rotation.

Cloutier described the unique, niche items that are available for purchase at Apple Valley Pharmacy, which include handmade quilts, handcrafted vegan soaps, precious metal jewelry, and soy candles, all made by local craftswomen. Specialty items include Medela breastfeeding equipment and apparel, and Rx Skin Therapy, individually customized and formulated by a compounding pharmacist. Patients filling prescriptions at Apple Valley Pharmacy are not only treated to a unique retail experience, they can relax and enjoy organic herbal teas in a comfortable sitting area.

“What an honor it is to have been chosen from NCPA’s more than 23,000 pharmacist members to speak to an audience of colleagues and aspiring pharmacists,” said Cloutier. “I’m humbled to have had such a group of professionals interested in learning about our methods of attaining retail successes, not to mention thrilled that I could assist attendees in earning educational credits.”
