All hands on deck for the playground

WARWICK — Warwick Playground Dreams is beginning to build teams and recruit volunteers to assist with Build Week, which will take place at Stanley-Deming Park from Monday, April 22, through Sunday, April 28, 2019.
The new inclusive playground will be a place for children of all ages and abilities to enjoy outdoor play together.
Seven days, 200 volunteers per dayFollowing the community build model that has existed in this country for decades, this playground will be built in seven consecutive days by 200 community volunteers per day.
Ten work crew team leaders are needed to commit to being at the playground on all seven days of construction.
Other volunteer shifts are broken down into four-hour increments.
The end result of a community build model is that children will play on a playground constructed by parents, family members and neighbors.
Community bondsTown residents who might not otherwise cross paths will have a chance to meet each other and work side-by-side to build the playground, strengthening the bonds in our community while creating a place of which they can all be proud.
The volunteers at Warwick Playground Dreams believe that the example of what can be accomplished when we all, as a community, come together, will be invaluable to the children of our community.
Construction experience is not necessary for volunteers or team leaders. The playground’s architects, Play By Design, have worked with communities across the country building beautiful playgrounds, and will be providing construction supervisors to direct our team leaders and volunteers.
Build Week opportunitiesBuild Week is an opportunity for local businesses, congregations and civic organizations to give back to the children of the community through a shared, team-building experience.
Playground facades painted by local artists will celebrate our community's rich heritage, culture and creativity.
The bricks of the playground’s walkways will be engraved with messages of love from the community.
Playing on an accessible playground will encourage values of acceptance and camaraderie with those who are different from themselves, in community members young and old.
An accessible playground benefits not only children who may need accommodation, but also their adult family members who might have lost functional mobility and still want to experience the park with their child or grandchild.
