— Warwick Valley High School junior Abby Housberg has won this year's original lyrics contest sponsored by Matt Barile, music director and owner of The Rock Underground in Greenwood Lake, and the Board of Directors of the Warwick Foundation for Excellence in Learning.
The original song is entitled “Sober.”
A metaphor“The song was not written about a specific experience," Housberg said. "I found that I could apply the metaphor to many different things in my life and love that others can, too.”
Barile selected Housberg’s submission for the WFEL/TRU Song Writing Competition fund raiser in mid-July.
Then over the next four to five weeks, the band Chemical Catastrophe (@ChemicalCatastropheNY) met weekly at The Rock Underground to compose, rehearse and eventually record the band’s individual tracks of instruments and vocals at The Rock Underground’s recording studio in Greenwood Lake.
”I've composed music before but never to this scale," said Connor Gargiulo, Chemical Catastrophe keyboardist and back up vocalist. "Its very different when you have to collaborate with others. We all have to agree on the same thing and I'm so proud of the results.”
