A night out at the tavern nets $4,000 for the Warwick Historical Society

WARWICK — On Saturday evening, March 10, more than 100 guests had an opportunity to enjoy good food, wine, beer and other refreshments offered by the Town of Warwick Historical Society.

The festive event was the annual Tavern Night, previously held at Warwick’s historic Baird Tavern.

This year, however, Tavern Night was moved to the A W Buckbee Center where, considering a 30 percent increase in attendance, there was more space to move about.

Although not quite as historic a setting as Baird Tavern, the food and drink was the same: shepherd’s pie, beef stew, “Grandmas’” chili, and the always popular kale and wurst washed down with David Sherfey’s brew, mulled cider and wine or soft drinks.

Outside of the soft drinks, Tavern Night, featured beverages and samples of tavern food as it was served in colonial times.

Yesterdays, Fetch Bar & Grill, Eddie’s Road House, Mistucky Creek and Forever Jewelers donated food and other items. And volunteers helped to make the evening a success.

Guests also had an opportunity to participate in a raffle for dinner for two at several restaurants.

Jim Quinlan, at the Society’s piano, provided musical entertainment for the evening.

The proceeds from Tavern Night, approximately $4,000, will be used for the society’s oral history project, which involves using interns and staff over the next year to interview long time and newer residents about their Warwick experience. The oral history project will cover the period from the World War II era to the present.

The Historical Society of the Town of Warwick owns and maintains nine historic buildings in the Village of Warwick.
