— Jeremy Harter graduated from the New York State Corrections Officer Training Academy in Albany on March 1.

The ceremony marked the end of an eight-week comprehensive and rigorous training program.

The paramilitary training included academic courses in security procedures and legal rights, firearms training, defensive tactics, emergency response procedures and rigorous physical challenges.

Harter received the award for top physical performance in his class.

Law enforcement runs in Harter’s family:

His father Daniel Harter is a New York State trooper with more than 30 years on the force.

His brother Jonathan is a police officer with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, stationed at the Lincoln Tunnel.

His uncle James C. Watt is Chief of Police for the Village of Goshen.

His great grandfather John George Heinzelman was a police officer in the Village of Goshen in 1927.

He also has several uncles and a cousin who also work in law enforcement.

Harter is a 2008 graduate of S.S. Seward Institute in Florida and received his associate’s degree from SUNY Orange in 2012. He lives in the Village of Florida, and has been assigned to the Washington Correctional Facility, a medium security prison in Comstock.
