WARWICK — Each year, the Warwick Valley Rotary Club, with Warwick Valley School District’s Interact Club’s help, donates a dictionary to each fourth grade student at Park Avenue and Sanfordville elementary schools.
The idea behind Project Dictionary, said Warwick Valley Rotarian Ryan O’Leary, is to help the young students be good writers, readers and thinkers.
Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people.
“I remember when I got mine and I was so excited. It seemed so prestigious” said Interact member Alex Fogg, a Warwick Valley High School junior, as she affixed a Rotary label into each book. “I took it home and sat down to read it. I still have it.”
In all, the Warwick Rotary Club gave 400 dictionaries to fourth grade students in the Town of Warwick. The Warwick Valley School District received about 260.
Dictionaries were delivered by the Rotary to:
• Park Avenue Elementary
• Sanfordville Elementary
• St. Stephen's-St. Edward's
• Bellvale School
• Golden Hill Elementary (to be delivered Nov. 9).
