— Warwick residents are invited to the next “Coffee with a Cop” event on Thursday, Sept. 29, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Wickham Woodland Manor, located at 253 State School Road on the site of the former Mid-Orange Correctional Facility.
This free event, sponsored by the Warwick Police Benevolent Association with coffee provided by Dunkin' Donuts of Warwick, is an opportunity for residents to meet with Warwick Police officers and to discuss any concerns they may have.
The fourth in a series, the upcoming “Coffee with a Cop,” also is a chance to meet the administrators of two popular Facebook groups - The Warwick, NY Parents Group and “You Know You’re From Warwick, NY When…”
Both Facebook groups serve as a resource of information for its members.

The Warwick, NY Parents Group

Information has been shared on The Warwick, NY Parents Group on a variety of topics from where to find a pediatrician to places in the community that host birthday parties for children.
This group is a continuation of the Warwick Moms Facebook Group whose administrators recently stepped down and closed the group. The current administrators are Kerri Fenton Foley, Nicole McCormick, Kristin Meola and Megan Cárdenas. The group has about 900 members.

'You Know You're From Warwick when'

Another popular Facebook group “You Know You’re From Warwick, NY When…” has approximately 3,800 members. Amanda Melvin, the administrator of the group oversees a Facebook page that contains nostalgic entries about the history of Warwick – people and places.
Melvin discovered the group shortly after joining Facebook in 2010. She is unaware as to who started the group and as to who made her an administrator – till this day, it remains a mystery.
When she first became an administrator, the group had a few hundred members and as the membership grew, she added Dan Chisholm as a second administrator, to help her.
Together Melvin and Chisholm maintain the Facebook page as a way to give the Town of Warwick back to those who have moved away over the years. Many of the posts are of past-time photographs and memories that members’ share of yesteryear and days gone by.

'Coffee with a Cop'

For residents and members of the two Facebook groups, the “Coffee with a Cop” event is the perfect opportunity to ask questions or share concerns with Police Officers.
“Coffee with a Cop” began in Hawthorne, California, in 2011 by members of the Hawthorne Police Department. The concept derived when the Hawthorne Police were looking for ways to interact more successfully with residents. Since then, the program has grown with events taking place in many states.
